a saturday misadventure

this morning i got up at 7:30 so i could make it to romsey by 8 for the whole of town garage sale. this was especially hard, as my chief coffee maker is out of town...and i really wanted to stay in bed...

once i was there, i couldn't find any signs or anything remotely garage like, and it looked like the town was still sleeping. i left the little black dog in the car and popped into a little italian cafe under the guise of buying coffee, but really to ask what the deal was. seems the whole of town garage sale was three weeks ago. sigh.

but while looking through a local weekend paper there, i saw an ad for an auction in kyneton. after tossing up whether to drive home and go back to bed, or to make the drive to kyneton, we were on our way again. it turned out to be a good decision, because despite the torrential rain throughout, the auction had some great pieces (but it was really quite sad as it was the estate of a 92  year old man who has gone into care). battling the rain and the puddles, i was very thankful i wore my gumboots and took an umbrella, what a huge amount of rain!

i'm really not good at judging how big the ute is, as i bought more than would fit in in one trip - so it was back home to unload it all, then back up the highway to get the second load.

the bottom two matching suitcases were a mega bargain, think it was the old sheepskin car seat cover hiding them from everyone's view. means the little black dog also came away from the auction with a present, he loves rubbing his face in textiles...

box of phones and radios

a sweet vintage suitcase that when opened, voila! a complete picnic set

a great old tin trunk with a great bright red inside

boxes of vintage linen. i didn't manage to score a box of vintage blankets, but did find a grey 100% wool blanket in good condition in the bottom of another box

a box of vintage picture frames, have an idea for them already. goes something like vintage prints on vintage maps in vintage frames...

i came home with a lot more jars, but not as many as i hoped - there's always an auction nemesis, and mine today was an older woman who was like a dog with a bone with a few boxes of old fowlers vaccola jars - ones i hadn't seen before (i scored ONE in a miscellaneous box, above), embossed on the front, and with glass lids. i went up to $60 on one box, and she kept going....so i let her have them!

i've already washed all this cutlery, it's brilliant. something about something worn and used and so old...

a $3 deck chair for our new deck?? bit of a clean, be perfect for a lazy afternoon...

this chair is from the newmarket saleyards (kinda obvious huh?!), and has a couple of worn patches, but is SUPER heavy and full of fabulous character

and an old chippy green ammunition box. perfect for all kinds of treasures...

now all i have to do is wait for the bottles to dry out, clean it all, find a home for it, photograph it, list it, and then i can start all over again ;)

hope you have a great (soggy if in melbourne!) sunday, marnie xx
