post offices and new beginnings

the end of 2011 has seen a few changes in our lives - both of us have resigned from our current jobs and have found new beginnings that involve working from home. i think this will be a great thing for work/life balance and less frustrating commuting time (i currently spend up to 3 hours a day commuting, and this is a change from what used to be a 20 minute bike ride). so while i hate public transport, i do however get some time to do etsy shop business on my laptop...

anyway, i look forward to a new start, and being able to spend more time on my two etsy business - i think i will start running in the morning with the little black dog and husband, then have coffee time, then hit the desk. working from home will mean a lot more structure and routine in order for it to work well, and i'll need to focus on getting OUT of the house more often.

we decided we needed to have separate offices (after i argued that sharing a desk might not be so productive...), which means that our long-term plans of straightening (it's rather crooked!) and renovating our 1890s post office will come forward to just after christmas. how we straighten it might be rather inventive, as i don't want to rip up what i think might be the original floorboards. then we just have to fix the sagging roof (and we have one batt of r6 insulation left over from our house), paint it inside and out, give it a new front deck and voila!

ryan attacked the HUGE rose bush that had taken it over last week, and spent 5 hours on the roof cutting it out of the walls and roof - now it looks rather bare, but the fact is that it's still huge!

this is the street face, it even looks crooked here!

it's currently full of my vintage wares, and some boxes that we haven't yet unpacked from the move, so once it's done, ryan will be surrounded by vintage on two sides of the building, i'll just have to be neater...

this is the back entrance - it will look a treat painted white with high gloss black doors...

and this is some of our other roses (these ones escaped being man pruned!)

will add some 'after' photos in the new year, marnie xx
